Chocolate flavoured Greek yogurt turns into a light dessert with fresh cherries, chopped dark and white chocolate, and crushed oreo cookies. And it’s practically guilt free.

The other day I found myself with loads of cherries. I’d been to the market without a shopping list, something that always ends with me impulse buying kilos of produce, only to find I can’t consume it all in time. I can’t help myself, it all looks so beautifully fresh and inviting.

So after I’d eaten all I could, I set about finding a way to use up the bounty. I tried one recipe which didn’t pass the test, so I won’t even mention it. The second however was a success, and thus has gained a place on these pages. It’s a very simple sweet snack that comes together in minutes, and can almost be called healthy. Chocolate flavoured Greek yogurt, with cherries and pieces of white and dark chocolate inside, sitting between sprinklings of crushed oreo cookies. Now, I feel the need to stress the fact that this is what it says it is. Yogurt. It may be chocolate flavoured and it may be in a dessert-y type recipe, but the fact remains that it is yogurt, and thus retains its special tang. You know what you’re eating when you take a bite. But this is what makes it deliciously different. And the whole thing is balanced out with the sweet cherries, the chocolate bits and the super sweet oreo biscuits, so your end result is just right. The yogurt pots are even better the next day. Try them!

Ingredients

5 Tbs cocoa powder + 5 Tbs boiling water

500 gr (about 2 cups) Greek yogurt, 2%

5 Tbs icing (powdered) sugar

3 Tbs honey

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

50 gr white chocolate, chopped

40 gr dark chocolate (semi sweet), chopped

2 cups cherries, whole but pitted

18 oreo biscuits, broken by hand into smallish, uneven pieces

Step 1

Mix cocoa powder with water in a mug till you get a smooth paste. Place yogurt into a bowl and add the cocoa mix, sugar, honey and vanilla. Mix well till incorporated. Add chocolate bits and cherries (keeping out 6 for garnish) and mix again. Transfer to the fridge for 15 minutes.

Step 2

Divide half the biscuit pieces into 6 glasses. Fill the glasses with the yogurt mixture and sprinkle with the rest of the biscuits. Plop a cherry on top and refrigerate till serving. They are even better the next day.
